How is this different from Intercom / Drift / Zendesk bots?
Those are great if you want a chatbot that fits inside their ecosystem. A Sitect bot is yours — your prompt, your data, your LLM provider, your hosting. You own the IP and can switch LLM providers without re-buying anything. We also build on the modern LLM stack from day one, where Intercom & co. retro-fit GenAI on top of legacy decision-tree engines.
Which LLM do you use?
By default, GPT-4o (OpenAI) for quality and gpt-4o-mini for high-volume cheap responses. We can swap in Claude (Anthropic), Gemini (Google) or a self-hosted Llama 3 / Mistral if you have data-residency or cost reasons. The bot architecture is provider-agnostic — switching is a config change, not a rebuild.
What does the bot cost to run, per month?
Hosting + LLM usage is billed separately at cost. Most clients land between R500/mo (low traffic) and R3,500/mo (busy WhatsApp bot). We give you a usage dashboard and a monthly cap so it can never run away.
POPIA — what happens to customer data?
All conversations encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256). PII is masked before it ever reaches the LLM (names, emails, phone numbers, ID numbers). 90-day retention by default — configurable. We sign a POPIA-compliant DPA before kick-off.
Can the bot escalate to a real human?
Always. The bot escalates on (a) explicit request ("speak to a human"), (b) low confidence, (c) sensitive topics (legal, complaints, billing disputes), or (d) when you've defined a rule. The human picks up in your inbox tool (Slack / email / our hosted inbox) with the full transcript and a one-line "what they actually need" summary.
How long does it stay accurate?
As long as you feed it. Every Sitect bot includes a self-serve admin where your team can add/edit/remove knowledge-base entries — no developer needed. We also include 30–90 days of post-launch tuning (depending on tier) where we tune the bot weekly based on real conversations.
Can we white-label / brand it as our own?
Yes. The bot has your brand, your name, your tone — no "Powered by Sitect" anywhere unless you want it. The widget can be themed to your design system.
What if it goes wrong / says something stupid?
Three safeguards: (1) System-prompt boundaries that tell the bot what it can & can't discuss, (2) Output moderation that flags risky responses before they ship, (3) An audit log of every message + tool call so you can replay any conversation. For sensitive industries (finance, legal, health) we additionally add human-in-the-loop approval on high-stakes responses.
